Rick’s Restaurant Review
By Rick Patton
Mr. D’s
105 E. Andy Devine Ave.
Dale, Josephine and I met on
July 9 at the Powerhouse for a ride. We were the only ones who showed up and it
was too hot to go very far so we rode across the street to Mr. D’s and had
lunch. Completely tuckered out by the ride, we settled into a booth to wait for
Dale’s wife, Gail, to get there. After she arrived, we had a pleasant lunch.
Mr. D’s is a 50’s Diner that
is right at home on Route 66. They have pictures of 50’s automobiles and
celebrities on the walls (an autographed photo of Oprah Winfrey was right next
to our booth) and Doo-Wop music blares from the
Rock-Ola jukebox.
They serve breakfast, lunch
and dinner. Prices range from $5.00 to $7.00 for breakfast and lunch, and
$10.00 to $16.00 for dinner. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She took our orders and
returned promptly with our Cokes and Sprites. The food came soon afterwards. My
patty melt was tasty and the red onions were different, but pretty good.
Josephine had pancakes, Gail had eggs over easy, Dale had a cheeseburger and
nobody had any complaints.
The food was good, so was the
service. The ambience was interesting and the window was positioned so we could
keep an eye on our bikes. All in all I’ll recommend Mr. D’s if you don’t feel
like riding far and want a good lunch. I’ll rev it up to 9 grand on the new and
improved Route 66 Riders Tach. Redline is 10.
