While riding around the Phoenix area tonight looking for Mexican food, I came upon Mucho Gusto on University Drive. This place bills itself as a Mexican Bistro and I suppose that is an accurate description. It’s dark, there’s a bar and patio dining. The music is a mixture of old time Rock n Roll and Latin tunes, and paintings of stylized Mexicans adorn the walls.

Prices for lunch range from $6.00 to $9.00 and dinners are in the $10.00 to $15.00 range. My chicken enchiladas were $12.00. They came three to a plate with rice and beans. I had a Buckler non-alcoholic beer (brewed by Heineken). That was $3.50. This place is a little pricy, but everything was delicious. The service was great. I thought the salsa was a little harsh, but then I guess it’s supposed to be.

If you’re in Tempe and are craving Mexican food, I’ll recommend Mucho Gusto and rev it up to 8 grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach. Redline is 10 grand.
