Rick’s Restaurant Review

The Vermillion Restaurant

Colorado City, AZ

On a recent trip to Colorado City I was treated to a local sandwich shop known as the Vermillion Restaurant. It’s also a candy shop and bakery. The place has ample parking front and rear, and there are big picture windows so you can keep an eye on your bike. The interior is wide open and spacious. The lack of the ubiquitous antiques on the walls indicates that the management is more interested in the quality of their food than in what you look at.

You order by checklist. Fill out the form and give it to the cashier and she’ll take your money. Sandwiches range from $1.50 for a grilled cheese to $2.99 for a bacon cheeseburger. BLT’s and fish burgers are available too.

We had the daily special…let’s see, Wednesday was the Mexican Platter. It consisted of three tacos and curly fries. They have the right idea when it comes to making tacos in that the cheese is right on top of the meat so it melts a little. Unfortunately the meat wasn’t very warm. The food was tasty though and sour cream was provided. The curly fries were nicely spiced as well.

This place caters to locals so we did attract some attention when we entered.  That subsided when it became evident that we were no threat. At least nobody said anything about my colors.

They serve breakfast and hymn books and books on Joseph Smith are also available.

All in all I’ll rev this one up to 3 ½ grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach. It might be a good side trip on our next Mesquite trip.
