Big Daddy 5
The Big Daddy 5 is my newest creation. It all started when I got an email from a member of my local club talking about a 50% off day at Micheals (craft store). Since the one near me has a quite large selection of rockets I decided to get one...a Big Daddy. I don't really know why but I really wanted to get one and stick a bunch of motors in it. I guess I just like clusters, a lot.
To say the least, I got one and have been working on it for about a week. The centering rings were a pain in the but though because the rocket is 3 inches wide and I wanted 3, one inch motor tubes (2 ways) in it. That ment drilling the rings in half. But after lots of hours of work I finally completed building it and it looks great.
I tried painting it in flat black and well, lets just say I'm doing gloss tomorrow. I am going to a launch this Sunday (11/17/02) and will fly it first on a single D12, to warm up the crowd :). Then...its going up on a central F24, (2) D12's, and (2) E9's. Its gonna be soooo cool.
I actually went to the launch on Saturday, not Sunday. Well, I didn't get to fly the Big Daddy 5. I was going to fly it on the single D12 but I was running out of time and so I just opted to go ahead with the 5 motors. So, I asked around and someone finaly had the D12's and E9's (I had the F24). Now if I could only remember who that was... Anyways, I loaded it up with the estes stuff, borrowed a casing, built that motor and put it in (with a strugle that is, it was a tight fit), and carried it to the pad. When I got there I, and the RSO realized it was a "little" bottom heavy and so that, plus the fact there was no way to wire the motors (our rgular controller was in the shop) meant no joy. Oh well, there is always December.
