Jeremy's Civil War Story
Nancy Reeder, a friend of mine told me a Civil War Story.  Her great grandfather was Joshua Jones Boyles. He was born in 1844 in Pennsylvania. When he turned 17 he wanted to be in the war but you had to be 18 so he went to New Jersey. No one knew him in New Jersey. He told them he was 18 and joined the war. He fought in the 1st New Jersey Calvary. He fought against the Rebel forces. At Brandy Station he was caught when his horse fell over a stump. He escaped by running away as the Union troops passed through a narrow place. Four or five men who were with Boyles were killed but he escaped unharmed. The Union soldiers caught him again at Savage Station. He again escaped unharmed. He survived the war and married Miss Rebecca McMullen.  They are seen in the picture above in 1908.
