THE STORY OF MALINDA & KEITH BLALOCK **************************** When the Civil War broke out Malinda's husband Keith and his stepfather were for the Union. Keith was faced with two decisions, to hide from the war or go and join the Union like his father. He chose to become a Confederate Solider and desert so he could tell the Union what the Confederates had planed. Malinda not wanting to be left behind, enlisted under the name Sam Blalock as Keith's younger brother. The two were assigned to go to Kinston North Carolina,no where near Union lines. After about a month Keith purposely rolled in poison oak just so he would be discharged. they gave him a medical discharge on April 10, 1862. Malinda then revealed her true identity and was also discharged. After they had escaped the war they became Bushwackers living off of stolen goods. |
