My Grandmother told me a story about my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather's involvement in the Civil War. His name was William Treaster. He was a Union soldier. It may sound strange that he was a Union soldier, but my Grandmother is originally from Pennsylvania. He was captured by Confederate forces some time after the first battle of Bull Run. He was taken to Libby Prison. This prison was the most famous of the Civil War and was located in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond was the Confederate capital. My Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather was one of more than 50,000 Union soldiers who were held at Libby Prison while it was used by the Confederacy. He survived the war but sadly passed away only a few years later. |
