My Civil War Story comes from The Franklin Press. I learned the following story from two articles written by Danita Stoudemire. Nancy Parker was a lady who lived in Western North Carlina during the Civil War. Nancy Parker was the dughter of Frankie Silver. Frankie Silver was the first woman hanged in North Carolina. She reportedly killed her husband with an axe. Nancy married David Parker in Oct. 2, 1850. He was called to serve in the Civil War. He never returned home. David died in 1865 from a gunshot wound to the leg. They had six kids. In 1872 Nancy remarried to William Commodore Robinson from Macon Co. Nancy died in 1901. Her grave is located in the cemetary of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. This church is located on Ellijay Road in Franklin, North Carolina. |
