Math homework pages will be listed in the planner if there is to be homework for that night. The homework comes from a workbook kept at school and your child is responsible for bringing home the correct page nightly. If your child works ahead they will be working on a lesson that has not yet been taught. Please complete only the lesson listed in the planner. If there is no Math homework for any reason then I will ask them to write "none" in their agenda. We will not usually have homework the night before a test or on test day. They will also write this in the planner.
There is reading homework Monday through Thursday every week. The students are asked to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night from their AR(library) book. When they are finished reading they are to record a sentence or two about what they have read and have it initialed by an adult. AR goals are set individually and I will send home notes periodically so that you can monitor how your child is progressing toward their goal. Students will be rewarded at the end of each 6 week period if they have met their goal.
Reading at home is vital to their reading success in school. If your child is struggling to read their AR books please let me know and I will help them to make a better choice. Please listen to them read occasionally and stop them to ask questions about the story to check for understanding.
