A. The difference between active and passive voice is who is doing the _____________!

-In the Active voice, the subject is ____________  _______  ________________

-In the Passive voice, the subject is _____________  _________________  ____________

            - You better actively do the learning, or you are going to be destroyed by the test.

              _________________  voice              //          ________________  voice

- Keywords- The words “_______, _____________,” and “been” are keywords to let you know that a verb is passive.

-hint- if the sentence doesn’t have one of these keywords, but you can add these

words before the verb w/ out changing any other words, the verb is also passive.

- Now the subject of a passive verb is the thing doing the “being,” instead of just the “action.”

B. Label these examples:

1. The man sees the town.

2. The man is being seen by the town.

8. The horse carries the boy.

9. The boy is carried by the horse.

-why is the boy the subject even though he is not doing the “action” of carrying?

C. Don’t forget, in Latin the passive voice needs passive endings!!!

So if you see these endings-- you must translate it as passive.

Active Endings:

1st s.                             1st pl.

2nd s.                            2nd pl.

3rd s.                             3rd pl.

Passive Endings:

1st s.                             1st pl.

2nd s.                            2nd pl.
