Discoveries Intermission And Catch Up |
On this page I'm just winging it. The Solar System thing will continue next with a find that might rate a star or a real big planet. On this page I've got some stuff I've been meaning to clean out. Some might not even rate moon status but that's ok, just consider them floating junk if you want. The pictures are of things that I need to share with you. They may be the reason for my recent lost sleep. So here they are. |
If you've been around you know I write about stuff I see in Mississippi since I have the opportunity to visit there a lot. Mississippi has as much or more off the wall things to see as Louisiana. After all, you'd expect that, her being bigger and all. You really have to keep your eyes opened though. There is so much tourist stuff there that it obscures the obscure. Case in point, I was heading to McComb on a personal mission when I saw this down a country lane. Salvage is about salvaging things for re-use or use as a different use. The hood fence qualifies. I rate it a big moon and a lesson to us all that it doesn't matter if your use of a used use is esthetic. All that matters is that the use accomplishes an equal or superior use. I don't mean to ramble on but this is probably the star (moon) of this page and it gets its due. |

Salvage (not junk) Yard Hood Fence. If interested I'll send you a map. |
Butch's was not the first instance of collecting I've seen out on the plains. Near the corner of La. 97 and 368, the road to Roberts Cove, a farmer has his booty displayed in the front yard. He has three rows of farm stuff, public utility stuff and more. I had a real good picture but can't find it. (Ray D. stole it so I'd show his picture I'll bet. He thinks its like TV and I have to pay him "air time". Got news bubba. The stuff is "naturally decaying". Before you jump me for being "mean to Ray, he's been a part of this deal for a while so he's use to abuse. Ray and I got to take a rare ride, rare because he's over there and I'm over here. We were on this ride when I accidently came upon the farmer's stash again. Of course I acted like I had purposely led him here right off the top of my head. Not. I took this next picture and noticed that Ray had a oo7 secret spy cam. He had not mentioned purchasing it and I'd not gotten the invoice which immediately makes me wonder if Ray is now working for another outfit or moonlighting. I haven't confronted him, but its coming. |

Being that we were on my side of the world, I wanted to show Ray the Whiteville Dam on famous Bayou Boeuf. The dam is located stategically above the WPA road which runs from La.182 at Whiteville to Morrow on US 71. The dam maintains upstream water level so the farmers and the cows can use it. I don't know if it matters as far as flood control goes. Unless I'm mistaken, and I could be, there is no hydroelectric output from this dam. You'd be surprised at how many dams Louisiana has. We have a lot. The TVA might want to look to us for guidence. |
Ray, at this point expressed a need to get home. |
Here's a few more I know you want to see and I need to show them to you. |

That other place in Mamou gets all the attention. Ride out of Mamou to La.13 and La.104 and the Holiday will greet you. I don't think it is actually open, but the vision of a true Southwestern Louisiana Road House is amazing. I love that color. |

The following pictures won't make sense to 99% of you. That's why they have not been shown until now. With declining readership, I'm going to my base, people who understand how I think. Surely there's someone? Ok, what's so special about an Airline Hwy sign? The fact that it was blown into the middle of Mississippi from New Orleans by the hurricane might impress you. |

I've seen THE BALLERS PALACE on a previous trip down MS 48 and finally got a chance to stop and take a picture. I can see why it appears to be closed. People just don't like to go Balling dressed up anymore. Could the art of Ball Room Dancing be lost? If so, the world is a lesser place for it. (hint, "Baller" is a blues thing) |

The next two pictures will not interest you as they are totally local in nature and directed at just certain people who probably have moved. The road through the USL (UL at Lafayette, mercy) Farm is a nice place and you can drive through it as it connects La.92 with Lady of the Lake Road that goes by Spanish Lake. The spot where Lady of the Lake and the USL road meet is called Delacroix, bet cha didn't know that. Now was Bod Dylan talking about this Delacroix or the one near New Orleans? The fact that he had a job on a shrimping boat probably means the one near New Orleans unless there are shrimp in Spanish Lake. Back to Earth. There are spots along the road that have little sitting areas where you can picnic or rest as I did on the way back from Rita Hell. There is information on cows and corn and stuff. You'll learn to pick out polled cattle from unpolled ones. I still not sure what voting has to do with it but there are noticable "signs". |

The next picture is what was, I suspect, an old store at the corner of La. 93 (between Arnaudville and Grand Coteau) and Parish Road 3-41-8. Ok, it's where John Kimball, Danny's brother, use to live. (Danny played drums for the likes of The Lemmon Blue (remember them?), Red Beans and Rice Review and a bunch more. My music history is wanting and vague) The reason I mentioned the place is that it is being cleaned up and something is going on there. Hopefully it is being occupied. I know, the Blue have regrouped and are practicing there to go on tour? Road trip. This is really weird. I was just kidding of course, but I just heard that a local music shrine is closing and Red Beans and Rice will be playing, Danny Kimball, drums. Be careful of what you say. It may come true. Are they practicing at the store? |
