SHR Residents
These horses are our permanent residents of SHR and our happy healthy friends! Current Residents as of October 2002
Tango came from a horse rescue in Eldersburg, MD called HorseNet.  Tango is happy and healthy.  She is a 10 year old mare, and was a former lesson horse.  Tango came to us very head shy and fearful.  She has bucked a few people, and tossed a few over her head, but fortunately never done this to me.  She is apprehensive about being touched by anyone she doesnt know.  Thankfully I have finally develped a repor with her.  She is so wonderful doing ring work.  Well trained, does flying lead changes and jumps 3.5 ft.  For the first year, Tango was one of the spookiest horses I have ever ridden on a trail ride.  She has been with us for 10 months now and I've basically figured out that everything she does is due to fear.  I have been working with her to reinforce her good behavior... sometimes with treats, other times with praise and rubbing, and always with a soft, reinforcing voice.  Since we moved to the new barn, I have found her to be much more receptive.  This type of situation is where she is happiest.  In May 2002, I began training Tango for endurance riding.  This horse just loves to work.  She is a much nicer and happier horse when I ride her regularly.  We have been riding an average of 10 miles per ride, 3 times per week, and I hope to have her ready for competetive trail competition by September 2002.  Wish us luck!
Tamar - is a 15.2h, 28 year old gelding.  He is named for a fast running river in england.  He is a TBxQH.  My husband obtained him for $300 because no one else could ride him.  See what a little love can do? Tamar refuses to grow old. He is the king of our field and always will be!  He hates being left behind from a trail ride... it's his favorite thing to do!  Whenever you see an older, skinny horse, and someone tells you its "because of their age..." think again.  This guy is proof positive that aged horses can be healthy and happy and look that way too!
Raz-Ma-Taz was purchased for our daughter, from a lady in Essex, MD.  She had owned him for the last 8 years as a western trail horse.  My daughter had been through a year of bad luck with horses... losing her very first horse, Tori, to Melanoma, then we tried Gaston, one of our rescues for her, whom she got along with fabulously... but he developed bad arthritis and could no longer trail ride.  And then Angel, who was good for her confidence, but had to be euthanized in May when she fractured her foreleg.  Well, Raz couldnt have come at a more perfect time, and he and Jessica have really developed a repor.  She rides him english and is the PERFECT GENTLEMAN on the trails.  He's no little guy!  He is a 17 year old, 15.2 paint gelding with two blue eyes... and needs to loose a bit of weight.  He is just the greatest push button horse and is very smart.  We thank his former owner for giving us the opportunity to try him out for several weeks before we bit the bullet and purchased him.  We are very pleased.
Gryphon - is a 6 year old, 17h, warmblood (Clydesdale/TB cross).  He is owned by Dee, the owner of the farm where SHR resides. Gryphon is a character and a big puppy dog.  You cant walk by this guy without him checking your pockets for treats!.
Calhooon (aka Crazy Calvin) was purchased for my husbands birthday from Ryan Enterprises of PA.  We were told he was a former cowboy horse... roped to ride and turned out wet when they were done.  He is very untrusting of people but we have already made HUGE success with him.  The first ride was a buck-a-thon at the beginning, but hub worked it out and they are making great progress.  Wish Calhooon luck!
