March 6: Professor Takahashi Tetsuya Will Give a Distinguished Lection in Chicago, IL

March 9-11: The Midwest Asian American Students Union Spring Conference at UIUC

March 15: Blue Scholars Tentatively Scheduled to Visit Chicago, IL

March 16-17: Immigration, Transnationalism, Diaspora Conference in Chicago, IL
The Unversity of Illinois-Chicago's chapter of Asian Pacific American Graduate Students Organization will present a conference titled "Immigration, Transnationalism, Diaspora: Issues for Asian/American Communities" on March 16 (3:00-7:30pm) and March 17 (9:00am - 8:00pm).  The event will be held at the UIC Student Center East at 750 South Halsted St.; Chicago, IL.

The JACL Youth in Chicago will be singing the day away with free karaoke from 3:30-6:00pm at Hiromi's Oriental Restaurant (3609 W. Lawrence; Chicago IL).

April 4: BEATS and SHORTS featuring the Pacifics in Chicago, ILL
Columbia College's Brand New Asian Students Organization will be hosting a night of Asian American Hip Hop and Short Films at 7pm at the Hot House (31 E. Balbo).  The event is free to Columbia Students and $5 for non-students.  

April 4: George Takei's speech at UIC's Asian American Awareness Month Kickoff Event in Chicago, IL
Star Trek's George Takei will be the keynote speaker at this event, which will be held at 4pm at UIC's Student Center East.  The Midwest Buddhist Temple Taiko Goup will provide entertainment.  For more information , please call 312.413.9569.  

April 4-8: The Association for Asian American Studies Conference in New York City

April 10: Film Screening and Q &A with Eric Byler in Chicago, IL
Filmmaker Eric Byler will screen My Life Disoriented and clips from Americanese, which will open around the nation in August.  This event will take place from 7-9pm at the University of Illinois at Chicago's Stuart Hall, Room 101. 

April 12: Asian Americans Asserting Visability: The Arts in Chicago, IL
A panel featuring Eric Byler, Quang Bao, Kwang Wu Kim, Ray Yang, and Nancy Tom will discuss pertinent issues about Asian Americans and the Arts from 6:30-8:30pm at the Harper Memorial Library.  A reception will follow.

April 13: An Asian American Literary Caravan will be held in Chicago, IL
Writers Quang Bao, Luisa A. Igloria, and Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi will read their work from 1:30-3:30pm at the University of Illinois in Chicago's Social Sciences Building, room 122.  

April 13: Dr. Anisur Rahman will give a special lecture at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN

Dr. Anisur Rahman will give a lectured titled "American Literary Studies in India" at 2pm in room 2275 Beering Hall at Purdue University; West Lafayette, IN.

April 17: Sentenced Home Documentary Screening in Chicago, IL

A documentary screening and Q&A session with film director David Grabbias will be held from 7:30-9:30pm in the Social Sciences building(room 122)  of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
