The Japanese American Citizens League The JACL is the nation's oldest and largest Asian American civil rights organization. Founded in 1929, the JACL was originally established to fight discrimination against individuals of Japanese ancestry in the United States. Although the JACL has evolved throughout the years, it continues to pursue of justice and equality for all American citizens by fighting discrimination and hate. The Japanese American Citizens League's Mission Statement To secure and uphold the human and civil rights of Americans of Japanese ancestry, preserve the cultural heritage and values of Japanese Americans, and combat social injustice against any peoples regardless of color or cicumstances. The JACL Midwest District Council The Midwest District consists of fifteen JACL chapters and covers a broad geographical area of 22 states. All JACL student and youth members within the Midwest District Council's jurisdiction are part of the JACL MDC Youth group.
