White House Internship Program Is Accepting Applications
The White House Internship Program is seeking qualified candidates for its summer and fall terms.  Candidates must be a United States citizen, enrolled in a college or university, and be at least 18 years of age.  Interns will assist with office duties, attend weekly lectures and tours, and complete an intern service project.  For more information, please visit their website.

The Chicago Freedom School Seeks Job Applicants (posted on December 21, 2006)
The Chicago Freedom School is hiring two full-time staff people to fill the positions of the Director for Youth-Led Social Change (salary range between $50,000-$60,000) and the Associate Director for Youth-led Social Change (salary range between $30,000-$35,000).   Interested candidates should apply by January 19, 2007.  Contact person: Mariame Kaba at MKaba@fic-sff.com

JACL Appoints New National Director (November 25, 2006)
Former California Assemblyman, Floyd Mori, has been named Interim National Director of the JACL.  The organization's president, Larry Oda, receieved the unanimous concurrence of the National Board to appoint Mori to assume the duties of National Director John Tateishi.  President Oda commented that "Floyd Mori will provide the experience, leadership, and vision needed by JACL during this critical transition in our history and envision a seamless continuation in operation and direction during this change."

Renewal of the Voting Rights Act

President George W. Bush signed the Voting Rights Act (VRA) on Thursday, July 27th, officially extending the bill for 25 more years.  The renewal of the VRA is a great victory for civil rights advocates, as it fights to establish and maintain the opportunity to vote for all American citizens. On July 21, 2006, the Senate voted to renew the 1965 Voting Rights Act.  Earlier in July, the House passed the renewal of the Voting Rights Act.
