I am glad you found this web site.  It was created because everyone diagnosed with a mental illness deserves support and advice.  It was created for medical students, residents, and physicians with mental illness. In particular, it has medical students as its focus.  Medical school for most is a time of great intensity, new experiences, hard work, complex challenges, and real joy.  Coming to terms with a mental illness while in medical school is very difficult.  The questions one asks, about career, about life, about future, are multi-faceted.  Some of the issues are shared with others facing mental illness, but some of the concerns are unique.  The psychological complexities of learning to take care of patients and simultaneously being a patient, especially with illnesses that are stigmatized and sometimes misunderstood, even in the world of medicine, is a lot to take on.  And, in a highly competitive and complex school/work environment, confidentiality is an additional concern.   The main focus of this site is to match medical students, residents, and physicians with others who know what they are going through.  It is a place to share stories and advice and to offer friendship and support.

Please realize that anyone struggling with mental illness or what may be signs of mental illness, including substance abuse, should first and foremost get professional help. This site in no way replaces that essential process.  Please, if you need help, get it, before you do anything else.  Click here for suggestions on how to do this.
