I took Bio 230, and yes, I had that instructor as a professor for Bio 361, the "next level" of Bio 230, so I understand your concern.
My advice is to avoid Bio 230, unless you have a
burning desire to learn lots of genetics trivia. The
fact is that Micro 200 and Bioc 200 have a great deal
of overlap with Biol 230. I think Micro and Bioc 200
will be adequate for the MCAT, doubly so if you also
have Bioc 300. Fact is, getting a good commercial
prep book (there are several at the UVic bookstore,
see my MCAT page for two reviews) will probably be all
the genetics you need. If you've got the
understanding, and the concepts, you'll do fine.
Also, the lab techniques that you'll miss in 230
aren't particularly crucial to your understanding of genetics.
I'd pick an elective that you're interested in, and
that you can get decent marks in. You'll get all the
genetics you'll ever need to know during your Biochem degree.
