Aragorn was born late in the third age, and was raised by Elrond as if he were a son. During the end of the Third Age, Aragorn went on long journeys and fought in many wars.
"Thus he became the most hardy of living men, skilled in their crafts and lore, and was yet more than they; for he was elven-wise, and there was a light in his eyes that when they were kindled few could endure."
And when he was forty-nine years old he wished to come back to Rivendell and on the way he stopped in Lothlórien and was with Arwen.
She agreed to wed Aragorn, but Elrond would only allow it when he was the king of both Gondor and Arnor.
