Generation No. 2

SARAH THOMPSON married James Lawton at Meeanee 7 Februrary 1871.

Extract from St Mary's Catholic Church, Taradale, marriage records

Baptisimal records show the following names of persons with William and Mere, being entered in the
"Pater et Mater eorumque domicilium" column:

  • William Thompson, musculius mateus, 15 Maii, Te Mahia.
  • John Thompson, masculus notus, 14 December, 1861, Waikare.
  • Richard Thompson, masculus natus, 18 October, 1870, Te Wairoa.
  • Henry Thompson, masculus notus, 24 September 1866, Re Wairoa.
(The notations, masculus notus, are hard to read, so I leave it to readers of this page to make their own determination as the correct spelling of this phrase.)

To date I have not found any record of Sarah's birth or baptism but marriage and death entries record William Thompson and Mere Waikopoia as being her parents.

  • This photograph of Sarah Lawton was copied from a large montaged photograph of two of my great granmothers, (Sarah Lawton, mother of William Patrick Lawton, my grandfather, and Pamela Corke, mother of William Patricks wife, Augusta Matilda Lawton, my grandmother). The large photograph was given to me about 1977 by an Aunt who was a grandaughter of Sarahs. My Aunt expressed a wish to me that I would care for it and share it with others who may be interested. To this end anyone wanting a copy please feel free to copy and paste from this page.

Sarah and her 2-yr old daughter are buried in the same grave at Taradale cemetery.
