Fish-eye view of humans in a cage.

On Milford Sound we visited an underwater observatory, nine meters below the waterline to view corals, anemones, sponges and fish species. A gauge in the observatory showed the Sound was covered with a 4 inches (10cm) layer of fresh water. Our guide told us that this freshwater layer on top of the salt water can fluctuate, dependent on rainfall in the area, and it can be up to 1 meter thick at times.

On our way back from the observatory I took this picture of the 300 feet (100 meters) high Lady Bowen Falls.
