Dear Colleagues:
Valdosta State University announces the 13th Annual VSU Blazer Storm at VSU,Valdosta, GA on October 6-7, 2006. We will be offering policy debate (varisty and novice), and parliamentary debate (for a list of rules on parli debate, see http://www.parlidebate.org on the web)
Novice team debate is defined as five tournaments or less, regardless of year in debate. Parli and LD debate will be just one division. We will also offer the following IE events: original oratory, humorous interp, extemp, dramatic interp, and dramatic duo. The meeting area this year will be in the Biology and Chemistry Building, next to West Hall. We will have registration, ballots, and all pairings from the atrium on the first floor of Biology-Chemistry building on campus. For those attending this year's tournament, it is in the same place this year--bio-Chem building atrium to begin on that Friday, October 6 from 1-3 for registration.
The deadline for entering the tournament is Wednesday, October 4th, 12 noon. ALL debate and IE entries should be sent to Mike Eaves ON TIME. We have a limited amount of rooms so please get your entry in as early as possible. You may email your entry or fax, please do not enter by phone. Late entries will be charged a 25.00 late fee. Changes or drops at tournament will result in a 50.00 change fee.
You may email me at meaves@valdosta.edu or fax at 229-293-6182 (Attn: Mike Eaves-Com Arts). We hope to see you in October.
Cordially,
Dr. Michael Eaves

Debate Information: We will offer both Novice and Varsity Divisions of policy team debate. There is no limit to the number of teams that may be brought from one school. Format is 8-3-5 with 10 min prep. This year we will offer parliamentary debate again --last year the parli division did make and I trust some of you will try it again this year. The parliamentary debate topics will come from current events--parli debate competitors are encouraged to use extemp files to help them prepare for their debates. For more info on the rules, See http://www.parlidebate.org for a description of the event; of course, you may email myself or call.
Team Debate Topic, the 2006-07 National Service topic. Novice is defined as
Five tournaments or fewer.
Parliamentary Team Debate (topic changes every round)-The times of parli debate are 7-8-8-8-4-5, with 15 minutes prep at beginning of the round
Individual Event Information: Six IE events including extemp, original oratory, humorous interp, dramatic interp, dramatic duo, and impromptu.
Judging: Each school is asked to bring one judge for every two teams that compete in debate. In addition, each school should bring one IE judge for every 5 slots filled. Fees for teams, ies, and judging fees, are included in the fee section. We reserve the right to limit entries without covered judging. IN ADDITION, THIS YEAR WE ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED ON SPACE--I ASK THAT YOU GET YOUR ENTRIES IN EARLY TO RESERVE YOUR SPACE-THANK YOU-tournament director
The ballot table will be located in the Bio-Chem Atrium. Please make certain that ballots are returned in a timely fashion so that we may keep the tournament running on schedule.
CAMP EVIDENCE FROM VSU 2006 CAMP: A limited number of camp evidence packets (about 750 + round ready briefs) will be available at the tournament. Please let me know about one week in advance if you want one so I can be sure they are copied in time. Price for the camp evidence is 100.00 per packet. A great addition for your school evidence. Advance orders and payments are discounted to 80.00
FEES*: School Fee =30.00 (food will be provided to coaches--concession will be open to students this year in the atrium)
Debate Team 50.00 each (policy or parli)
Each Uncovered Debate Team 60.00* each (one judge covers only 2 teams)
IE slot 8.00 each
Each Uncovered IE Slot 8.00 each (one IE judge covers only 5 slots)
Camp Policy Debate Evidence 100.00 --advance payments before tourney begins--80.00)
*Our fees are higher since VSU is charging us more than double for room rental this year. This may be the last year for us to host as the school has said that our room rates will go up even more next year--please voice your complaints about these fee increases by contacting me and letting your school argue against future classroom fees
*You must pay an uncovered debate fee for EACH 2-person team you have no judge to cover. A judge covers only two teams. For example, if you bring four teams and have only one judge, you pay 200.00 for team fee and 120.00 for the two uncovered teams.
