Family: Citan Kenjin and Miang Kenjin were his parents.  They’re both deceased now.
Friends: The other historians and mages, anyone who is scholarly.
Strengths: Ryu is surprisingly fit for one who spends so much time studying.  He also possesses an extremely strong will.  He nearly always sees what he wants through to the end.
Weaknesses: Possessing an extremely strong will also means being stubborn. Never backing down includes when the odds are blatantly against you and any normal person would know to leave.
Appearance: Ryu is very tall and stately.  He is 6’3” tall and has very broad shoulders, but his limbs are rather thin.  This gives him a regal, intelligent appearance rather than making him look like a meathead.  His dark black hair is cut simply and at a medium length to keep it out of his eyes.  His eyes have a very odd color; a mix between hazel and gold.  Even more unsettling is a very slight difference in color between the two eyes. Not
overtly different, but just enough to make one wonder.  He has very long, sharply defined, and hard facial features.  Combined with his off-colored eyes and his size he looks rather intimidating when he scowls. He generally dresses very nicely.  He often has a long black overcoat covering his clothes though. The coat has grey lines along the shoulders, and grey circles with crosses inscribed on each arm.  Darker black lapels with lighter crosses are worn on the color of the coat.  Underneath the overcoat he wears well tailored black dress pants and a gray dress shirt. The shirt's collar is cut in a French style(refer to picture if you don’t wear suits often) and a black tie is worn with it.  Another gray circle with an inscribed cross conceals the knot of the tie.  He wears small black gloves and black leather dress shoes as well.
Personality: Ryu is an existentialist and an elitist.  He does not care what people do, but how they do it.  He doesn’t care what people believe, but why the believe it.  Once you have chosen what you believe and what you don’t, you also have to hold true to those things at all costs.  If you don’t do these things, he will think you’re a fool who’s not worth dealing with.  He himself thus has a very strong moral sense of right and wrong and will uphold it even if it means his death.  Ryu is not, however, so naïve as to think that society does not affect one’s beliefs.  He too has had to and still does have to deal with the paradox of defining himself amidst the influence of society and is intelligent enough to tell when other people are experiencing the same conundrum.  He seems unnecessarily harsh at times, but he is a good person at heart.  He is also an extremely loyal friend once he has accepted you.  Ryu is also obsessed with the history and powers of the dragons.
History: Citan and Miang were a very rich couple during their life.  Ryu grew up as one of the aristocracy and thus got accustomed to the best.  He had an excellent education and was rather physically fit.  He quickly came to consider himself far superior to the less well-to-do than himself.  This view of the world quickly came crashing down though.  One day while wandering around the city with his parents; they were attacked by a group of poor thugs.  Ryu was too naïve and egotistical to perceive them as a threat and foolishly tried to stop them.  The thugs pulled a knife against the unarmed Ryu, and his father took the attack for him.  His mother collapsed in grief and held his father’s corpse.  The thugs killed her too for jollies. Ryu was a maelstrom of emotions: rage, grief, panic, fear. He charged the thugs without thinking.  One of them had another knife and slashed at Ryu’s face, costing him his eye.  When things seemed over, an even lowlier bum managed to defeat all of the thugs with just his cane.  The bum tended to Ryu’s wounds and sheltered him until he had recovered.  When Ryu awoke he was extremely confused.  His elitist outlook had been forcibly shattered by the death of his family, and his rescue by a mere homeless man.  The bum turned out to be quite scholarly and took Ryu under his wing during Ryu’s time of confusion.  The bum taught him major philosophies and taught him how to fight. It was during this stage of his life that Ryu learned about existentialism.  It was also when he gained his preoccupation with dragons.  The fighting style the old bum had taught Ryu had originated from the dragons and Ryu craved to learn more.  After studying under the old man for a number of years, Ryu left and went to study as a mage of Ichidou.  His parents’ status and influence had assured him a position there since his birth, and he gladly took advantage of that position to study more about the dragons.
Item: A spellcard deck.  Ryu is very self confident, but he has also learned, the hard way, that it never hurts to be prepared.  He carries a deck of spell cards in the inside pocket of his overcoat.  These spells are all relatively weak, ranging from minor illusions, to shielding spells, to weak attack spells.  They provide him with a wider variety of spells to cast than most other mages on the planet though.
