For those not in the know and wondering why I have so much free time as to send crap out about Canola oil, here’s your answer: I really liked the South Park “Kill Canada” theme? Actually, it has more to do with job/career change than cartoons (why this is exactly I don’t know, the rest of my life seems to be a big joke, why not this?).

Anyway, I’m no longer at Conveyor (lack of) Technologies. I will be starting at John Deere March 5. Unless:

1)      I win the lottery (of at least 1mil)

2)      I am dead (or in a coma I suppose)

3)      I marry a rich woman (actually, depending on how rich, this could be a guy, lol).

4)      I become someone’s ‘Girl Friday’

5)      I find short term consulting work at $25-40/hr in the RTP area

Given my lifelong history I realize I’m not lucky enough to win the lottery, good enough to get contract work in this crappy area, attractive enough to marry rich and somehow get the feeling I can’t die just yet. However, I do like dog-walking and shopping, so I’m kinda holding out for Option ‘4’.

The benefits of the new job are:

1)      I shouldn’t see as many dead dogs on the way to work

2)      I get a chance to repair the demo model I broke during interview

3)      I get to see mowing equipment but don’t have to use it

4)      And of course, the ubiquitous big bag of cash

The disadvantages of the new job are:

1)      Extreme travel. And by this I mean amount (2 full weeks per month), not necessarily effort (Ie, riding on the wing not actually in the airplane).

2)      A return to cube-life

3)      I have to work with engineers

4)      My work will focus on computer issues. It’s like they didn’t even think to ask, “So how many computer systems have you broken in you lifetime?” or “Why is your name on our SysAdmin’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ List?

Regardless of the tradeoffs I figured Deere would look good on the resume and I could stand a big bag of cash right about now. So I figure I’ll just suck it up for the next 6 months and see what unfolds. Unfortunately that means I’ll be doing less Jaycee functions and getting outside less, so this will suck. OTOH, I will get to spend their money traveling and maybe even relearn to read.

In conclusion, what started out as a nice little conversation last week at CT has now turned into a 20day weekend! Woohoo!
