Memorial Day Weekend – When it rains… (1/2)

So now it’s raining and we just got back from biking. What to do? Well, we needed to shower anyway, so we stopped at the bathhouses and did that. Insert scene from either ‘Psycho’ or ‘[your favorite porn movie]’ here.

Upon actually getting back to the campsite proper, we notice a few things. 1, many people didn’t have waterproofing gear for their tents; 2, many people left their tents open. This meant a lot of stuff got wet in a hurry. Some people weren’t even back yet (from other trips).

Meanwhile, the cooks got to work and grilled anyway. Some people decided to stick it out. Some packed up and went home. Some decided to go to a hotel. For my part, I tried to stay out of the way. Our tent seemed dry and it’s nice to nap in the rain. I didn’t actually get any sleep, but it was relaxing nonetheless.

After awhile I noticed leakage. And the tent wasn’t holding up to well either. Since Richard was smart enough to reserve multiple rooms and Jeff was nice enough to let us stay with him, we opted for the hotel scene as well. After a quick stop at the bank and the Long John Silvers, we were off to creature comforts.

I know, Long John Silvers isn’t great, but I do like cheap seafood and apparently my quiet time in the tent resulted in not getting any dinner, ugh. At least ‘Superstitious’ was playing inside (Stevie Wonder version). And how often can you have dinner with a woman where you hear, “it’s no wonder I can’t remember your tastes, you’re just odd.”

We met up with some kindred spirits later at the same sports bar and talked a bit. Most people were dead tired so sleep was soon to follow. Or was it?
