  1. Visible peristalsis
  2. Scar
  3. Deformity

Palpate

  1. Apex
    1. Location: use one fingertip, most lateral and inferior point
    2. Character: use palm – eg. Mitral stenosis = tapping apex beat
    3. Cannot feel apex?
      1. Obese turn Pt laterally
      2. Emphysema
      3. Dextrocardia: feel right side
  1. Parasternal heave: palm over sternum, indicates RV hypertrophy, palm lifted up
  2. Thrill: palpable murmur

Auscultate

  1. Heart sounds
  1. Added sounds
  1. Murmur

  2. Pulmonary 2nd heart sound loudest here + aortic
