The most famous instance of this is when major media outlets world wide published a photo of a young man, bashed and bloodied, crouching beneath an angry batton weilding policeman. The headline identified the man as a Palestinian vicitim of the recent riots and implied that the angry policeman behind him had beaten him. The man was a victim of the Palestinian riots, only he was a Jewish man who had been bashed by Arabs, and the policeman behind him was the soldier who had saved him. The Jewish man, Tuvia Grossman had been beaten and stabbed for 10 minutes by a Palestinian Lynch mob.
Another famous distortion was in the case of the shooting of Mohammed Al-Dura. There is no doubt that this boy was shot to death. Israel was considered in the media to be automatically guilty of the boys death.. This story to was used to villify Israel. Over and over the footage of the boy and his father, screaming in terror before finally being shot was played. It was terrible to watch. The problem is that the facts were distorted to blame Israel for this. Subsequent investigations showed that the bullets that killed Mohammed Al-Dura did not come from the Israeli position, nor were they of the type used by the IDF in that action. |
