The following is a description of the classes currently being offered at the Medina SeniorNet Learning Center
Computer Fundamentals starts with exercises using the mouse and proceeds to some elementary applications.  This class provides an introduction to the computer for those who have absolutely no experience with a computer, with emphasis on using the mouse.  It is highly recommended that those people take this class prior to taking Introduction to Computers.
(Uses Word Pad and Paint)
Introduction to Computers introduces the new computer user to Windows, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Databases.  You will learn how to use the Help feature, create and save documents, access existing files, create folders and understand basic navigation.  This class is required for all of those new to computers or whose experience is limited.
(Uses Microsoft Word 2003 and Microsoft Works Suite 2004 for spreadsheet and database)
Introduction to Word Processing focuses on techniques of using Microsoft Word to create documents such as letters and other documents.  You will learn how to set margins, create headers and footers, edit text, insert graphics, spell-check and print.  Other activities include cut, copy and pasting text; changing font, color, size and style of characters; setting tabs to create lists in columns; creating tables; and using the Thesaurus.  (Uses Microsoft Word 2003)
Exploring Windows XP will introduce you to many of the features of this powerful Windows operating system.  It will start with the establishing of user accounts.  You will learn about the Windows hierarchy; how to open programs; how to use Windows Help; how to utilize Windows Explorer; how to delete files, format disks and copy discs; explore aspects of the desktop; how to create a folder and a shortcut to a document; how to manage various Windows settings; and how to view your system fonts.
Print Artist opens up the fun and creative world of making greeting cards, flyers, calendars and more.  The course will show you how to insert and modify clip art as well as use graphics of your own design.  You will learn how to bring your favorite photos into the computer to print, place on greeting cards or send in an e-mail.  (Uses Print Artist 15.0, Gold Edition)
In Introduction to the Internet you will learn how to access the Internet and view and interact with web sites.  You will also sign up for a free email account with Hotmail and learn how to send and receive email messages, as well as send and receive attachments to email.

Introduction to Digital Photography will present features of digital cameras and scanners; downloading of photos from digital cameras and scanners; cropping, enhancing, color correction, and repairing of photos; adding text; selecting part(s) of photos; combining photos through layering by placing the student into a photo; creating special effects; producing panoramas, making picture pages, and producing a slide show.  (Uses Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 ? soon will be shifting to Adobe Photoshop Elements 3)
In Introduction to Buying and Selling on eBay you will navigate through eBay by browsing sale items by category and by searching for specific items by name. You will learn how to bid on an item.  You will create a practice auction listing, which will include a description and photo of a sale item as well as payment and shipping information.  Students taking this class need not be a member of SeniorNet.  (Accesses the Internet through Internet Explorer)
Introduction to Genealogy will provide you with some of the basics of conducting genealogical research, and will instruct you on documenting your data into a genealogy computer program.  Once your data is entered into the computer, you will print out descendants and pedigree charts in various forms, and you will have the computer write a book from those data.

Introduction to Quicken introduces you to the use of Quicken software to balance your checkbook, track investments, prepare tax information, and other financial tasks.  The class includes setting up various accounts and types of entries into the accounts, backing up and restoring this critical data, how to set bill reminders, financial calendars and paying bills.
