Mediterranean 2000
(Centro Regionale d’Intervento per la Cooperazione)

CRIC (Centro Regionale di Intervento per la Cooperazione), is a development and relief NGO acknowledged by Italian Government (Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Italian Low for International Co-operation n.49/87) and European Union. It has been working since 1984 within development programs in Africa, Latin America, Middle East , Balkans and Southern Italy. Since 1993 CRIC has been working in the field of Humanitarian and relief Aid as an implementing partner of ECHO (FPA signed in 1993 n.37) and United Nations Agencies.

OBJECTIVES:

C.R.I.C. works to reinforce and spread all expression of political liberation. It promotes social and economic emancipation among the developing peoples in the South through NGOs, associations and social groups. It works for the recognition of peoples' right to exist. It contributes in the search for democratic ways to bring about the recovery and development of populations affected by natural disasters or military conflict. It aims at heightening the awareness of the Italian public of the problems resulting from economic differences between North and South in the world and to further the understanding of the immigration phenomena in our country. It encourages concrete actions of solidarity in Italy on behalf of the underdeveloped population in the South and to stimulate social, technical and cultural interest. It facilitates and promotes the exchange of ideas and experiences with the Southern World as well as with other Italian and European NGOs.

In Southern Italy, CRIC works to stimulate research and experimentation concerning income-generating activities. It proposes an alternative social aggregation to a system that for decades has been based on economic dependency on the North and the Mafia. These conditions have led to environmental degradation and economic discrimination.

The basic principles that underlying the CRIC’s work for development and relief works are:

  • People-centredness
  • Human Rights
  • Empowerment
  • Participation
  • Interdepedence
  • Change
  • Sustainability
