Else

Dana sat quietly in her room, leaning against the wall. She wasn't insane. She knew she wasn't insane. Her ranting and raving about the moving shadows had gotten her in there anyway though. No one else saw the shadows, no one believed her, understood her fear. So, they, fearing what they did not understand had sent her to a world of padded walls, doctors and drugs. A world where people screamed all night, and the guards harassed you. It was horrible. And the shadows still followed her.

After a few months inside this sterile hell, she learned not to fear the shadows, and found that being here provided perfect opportunity for her to learn from them. So, she had to act looney enough to keep herself there. She never knew acting like a nut would be so hard. But she seemed to be managing.

Looking at one shadow, she concentrated all her energy on it. Slowly, it began to move towards her. She stiffened, almost afraid, but the knowledge that she was making it move helped her to quell her fear. She willed it towards her, faster, faster! Soon the other shadows joined it as they raced towards her, a huge back void. Then they hit her like a giant waved, the force knocking her off her feet and she fell through them. Down, down into a world of darkness as she left the room with the padded walls, the doctors and the drugs behind. Down into darkness, down into something....else.
