My Weight Loss Journey

I know, by now, some of you may be wondering if indeed Weight Watchers is the answer. All I can tell you is that it IS the answer for me.

I had tried it all. Believe me, I had. From the diet pills and diet shakes ("just replace one meal a day"), to the work out videos and home exercise machines.

In fact, one year I even turned our Nordic Track work out machine in to "Santa's Reindeer Flying School." True story! I attached some plush reindeer to fishing line and they appeared to be flying from the back bottom part of the machine up to the handle area. Hey, if I couldn't keep up with the work-outs, I figured I might as well use it for something!

I tried one of those No Carb diets for a while. Lost thirty pounds on it too, but couldn't stay on it. One visit to a family member's home and there went that diet. I ended up gaining back all I lost and more!

Yeah, I tried counting calories, counting carbs, counting fat, and all I could really count on was saying goodbye to yet another diet. Then I'd go back to what I weighed before, or more, feel miserable and eat more. I was actually looking to take "comfort" from the one thing that was making me miserable in the first place - FOOD. Go figure!

While I was trying to buy the latest video or ordering the newest diet product, I was also feeling miserable health wise. I lost all interest in walking. Something I loved to do in the past. Suddenly I was finding myself with more backaches and leg aches. I was packing away the clothes I wanted to get in to and buying more of the types of clothes that would fit me at that moment. Even my jeans were changing now.

You know the type of jeans I'm referring to. I call them my "fat jeans." They're the kind of pants that look like jeans but, when you lifted up that mammoth sweat shirt you were wearing, there it was. The dreaded stretch band!

Finally I made my mind up....again...to lose the weight. But this time I got on the right track! When my Doctor suggested Weight Watcher's, I looked them up online and read up on their Winning Points Program.

I joined their online program! I can sign on any time I want, or need to, and find friends to support me on the posting boards there. I have all the advice and the support I need right at my fingertips.

I have a set number of points to stay between each day. Each food item is awarded a certain number of points. By eating at least my minimum number of points allowed and by staying under my maximum number allowed daily, I would lose weight. Sounded simple. And it included any foods I wanted it to - so long as I stayed within my point range.

So, I tried it. And guess what??! It works! I lost 3 pounds my first week and another 3 pounds my second week! And have kept on going from there! As of November 24, 2003, I have been on the program for 59 Weeks and have lost a total of 68 pounds so far and I made GOAL this morning!!:)))))

I'm never hungry anymore and I find myself wondering now how I ever ate so much before! And the great part is, I don't have to eat peaches and cottage cheese or salads at every meal. I don't have to eat them at all, if I don't want to!

Thanks to Weight Watchers, I have learned how to eat healthy, how to prepare better foods at home, and how to enjoy life once more.

I no longer "live to eat," now I "eat to live!" I know the weight is going to keep dropping off, I know I will make my goal weight, and I also know, for the very first time, that the weight will stay off!:)

And I think that's the best feeling of all:)
