House
#3: Misc

bookcase |
|
I didn't take a picture of the pre-assembled pieces, but you can probably figure it out. ;) I had 4 shelves and 2 sides. Really simple and basic. Stained the same color as the floors, stairs and fireplace (Dark Walnut). The house will definitely match, hehe. |

staircase

A thin dowel + cut pieces of popsicle sticks = a cute
little staircase! My house isn't too tall/big so I wanted something simple
and the normal staircases would take up too much space. So I copied what
my Grandpa did on my Grandma's miniature store and made my own staircase...
It turns out pretty nice :)

|
I circled the stairs a little (I didn't measure to make
sure they were proportional to reality but I didn't want to worry about
that, I'm only going for appearance right now). I added some detail using
the top of toothpicks to structure the stairs. They go all around the
sides to both balance it and make it look better (another idea I got from
Grandpa!)

Then I stained them (Dark Walnut). Looks fabulous ;) Not exactly very sophisticated looking, but it works perfectly for what I'm going for!

fireplace |
|
Another item from scratch! This was much harder than
the other ones (because of the number of pieces and because of the texture/style
of it).

I didn't take any picture of the process. While I was
making this, I was also working on fixing my computer so I was semi-distracted
with that. I stained all the wood pieces (that I knew would be showing).
I pained the fireplace pieces (two different shades of gray) and then
made the bricks. I used brick material that I had left-over from my other
house (Bellingham). I dry-brushed "Burnt Sienna" on the bricks
to give them a more used/aged look. I ended up mixing the gray colors
in with "Dap Spackle Paste" to fix the gaps - they were too
thin before, with just paste and I didn't care for it. Then I dry-brushed
black (more so on the bottom) to add to the used look. Overall, I like
it. It took about 3-4 days to do (mostly just letting them dry and working
on another item while waiting).

night stand |
|
I forgot to complete this with the others... just a
really simply nightstand. The foot stand was with some extra pieces of
wood [I believe it was a post for a staircase?] and the top is just a
small piece of wood with coffee stirrers going around the edge.
