J.K. Rowling was born in Chipping Sodbury General Hospital in 1965. She began writing at a very early age, when she was five or six. The first book she ever wrote was called Rabbit. Ever since that book, she has been writing. J.K. Rowling had lived with her father Peter, her mother Ann (who passed away in 1990), and her sister Di. With her family she had moved twice while growing up. First her family moved from Yate to Winterbourne. There her sister and herself use to play with two kids whose last name was Potter. When Joanne Kathleen (J.K.) Rowling was nine, she moved to Tutshill, in a country side house. She had hated school because her teacher scared her a lot. After Tutshill Primary School, she went to Wyedean Comprehensive. Her favorite subject was English, but she enjoyed languages too. At lunch time at her school she would even tell stories to her friends. Usually her stories were about her friends and herself doing heroic and daring deeds that they would probably not do in real life. Well Joanne was made Head Girl her final year, but she didn't get to do much with her power. Right after school she went to Exeter University, where she studied French. She says that going there was "a big mistake." She was a secretary and was very disorganized while being one. At meetings she didn't listen and instead of taking notes, she would write down her ideas to stories. Finally when she was 26, she gave up the office and went to teach English as a Foreign Language. She loved teaching English, and in her free time she would write stories. It was there that she came up with an idea about a boy who found out that he was a wizard and was sent to a wizard school, the first Harry Potter book. When she left her English teaching, she went to Edinburgh to live with her baby daughter. There she set a deadline to finish the Harry novel before she would start to work as a French teacher. A year after she finished the Harry Potter book, a publisher bought it. J.K. Rowling said, "the moment when I found out Harry would be published was one of the best in my life." During that time she was a French teacher, and a publisher paid her an amount of money which enabled her to quit teaching and continue writing. She is now a great writer who is a single parent of her daughter Jessica. *** You can write to J.K. Rowling from these addresses: In the USA: J.K.
