Ron and Lucinda
By Liza
Author's Note:  This is a terrible version of "Romeo and Juliet."

Lucinda Langston was a 5th year Slytherin; but she was quite different from most Slytherins.  She had almost been placed in Gryffindor!  But for some reason, the hat switched her to Slytherin.  But she did not always feel like a Slytherin; her dormmates, Lin Shaw, Jen Shaw (Lin's twin) and Maria Onzlo were not like here--well, that wasn't true.  Maria was actually her best friend.  But the way they worshiped Draco Malfoy and his gang!  She was glad that they did not know that her Grandparents were Muggles, or, as Draco often said, "Mudbloods."  The only ones who knew were her dormmates--and she knew they'd never tell anyone.  She was, however, very popular with the Slytherins, even though they were mean!
That night was the Yule Ball.  Everybody was excited!  Lucinda was going solo, however--so was Jen Shaw.  She supposed they could all hang out, but she kinda wished she had a date.
When they walked in, they sat at a table.  Then Jen said, "I wish I could have a date."
Lucinda nodded.  "Me too.  But at least we're here together!"
Jen rolled her eyes.  "Really Lucy, nobody goes to dances with their friends anymore.  Duh."
          Lucinda said, "why not?"
Jen shook her head.  "Honestly Lucinda, you are such a dope sometimes."
Lucinda gasped.  "I am not a dope!  I just--"
"Whatever."  Jen snapped curtly.  Maria looked very nervous, but looked like she had no intention of standing up for Lucinda.
Lucinda stood up.  "Oh, well, as I see I'm not wanted, I'm going to find some people who appreciate me to talk to.  Good bye!"  She stormed off in tears.  Some friends!  Lucinda ran outside and realized where she was headed--Hagrid's house.  She stopped, and just stood outside, crying.  She felt so hurt.
"Are you okay?"  She looked up and saw a red-headed boy looking at her.  She smiled.
"I'm fine.  I just got tired."
The boy looked skeptical.  "Are you sure?" he said.  "I mean, I don't want to pry, but if you want me to get Ms. McGonagal or someone--"
"No, that's okay...thanks, though."  Lucinda said.  She looked at the boy.
         "What's your name?" she asked.
         "Ron Weasley," he said, "you?"
"Lucinda."  She and Ron shook hands.  Lucinda realized she recognized the name--maybe he was in her house.  She said, "what year are you in?"
         "Fifth, you?"
"Fourth."  The girl suddenly felt shy.
Ron said, "well we ought to head back into school..."
Lucinda sighed.  "Do you really want to?"
Ron looked surprised.  "What do you mean?"
Lucinda said, "oh, it's just that I....never mind.  Let's go."
They walked in, just as they heard Ms. McGonagal say, "Okay everybody, get in a circle and dance with the first person you see."  Lucinda grabbed Ron's arm--he was the closest to her--and they started dancing.  After about an hour, they stopped.  She realized that they had been the last ones dancing.  Everyone was looking at them.  Draco came up to them.  He took Lucinda's arm.  She realized he was glaring at Ron.
          "Come on," he hissed.
          What had gone wrong?

Ron walked into his dorm with Harry and Hermione.  His date had been Hermione.  Harry had been with Cho.  Ginny, Ron's sister, came running up.
"Ron," she said, "I saw you dancing with Lucinda Langston.  That was pretty brave of you, considering she's a Slytherin!"
Ron gasped.  "A Slytherin?  She can't be!  She's way too nice!  She danced with me, she--"
"Maybe she thought you were a Slytherin," Ginny said.  "That would explain why--"
"Ginny, I know she wouldn't care if I were a Gryffindor or not!"  Ron exclaimed.
Ginny shrugged.  "Well, it's time I went to bed.  Night!"
Ron walked into his room.  Harry said, "Ron, what if she is a Slytherin?"
         Ron said, "Does it matter?"
Harry shook his head.  "Of course not!  It's just that, well...if she was....it would complicate things."
Ron didn't reply.  He crawled into bed, turned his back to Harry, and pretended to be asleep when Harry said his name over and over.  Who was Harry to tell him he shouldn't like people from other houses, when he himself liked Cho Chang, a Hufflepuff!  "Hypocrite," he murmured, hoping Harry couldn't hear.  Then Harry would realize Ron was not only ignoring him, but calling him names, and although Ron was mad at Harry, he didn't want Harry mad at him.
The next morning, Ron went to the Great Hall.  Harry and Hermione were already there.  He sat down.  Hermione said, "so, I hear you have a crush on that Slytherin."
Ron's ears turned pink.  "She's nice," was all he could say.  Harry and Hermione exchanged looks.
"Ron," Harry said, "sorry if I was a bit rude last night.  I just...I....I guess I was tired."  Ron shrugged.  "It's okay."  It wasn't, but Harry didn't need to know this.
Meanwhile, at the Slytherin table, Jen said, "so, Lucinda, I saw you and that Gryffindor redhead dancing last night.  Were you having fun?"  She looked smug, and Lucinda realized she thought it was funny that Lucinda "got stuck with" Ron.  Lucinda didn't feel she got STUCK with him, but Jen thought so.
"Actually, it wasn't that bad."  Lucinda remarked.
Draco Malfoy glared at her.  "You don't LIKE him, do you?"  He said.  "Because don't forget, not only is he not a Slytherin, but a Muggle-lover."  Draco made a face as if that was the worst thing one could be.
Lucinda said, "well, he isn't that bad."  Everyone stared.
