One day though when Meg was walking around, Kid Blink saw her. He said, "Hey Meg!" She turned around and groaned. He ran to her and said, "How are you doing?" she replied, "Fine...just fine..." and in her thoughts "Until you came." She then smiled. He said, "Well hey, I'm sellin some papes. Wanna come with me?" Meg replied, "Oh, I would LOVE to..but I got some things to do." He said, "Oh all right. Will I see you tonight?" She nodded. He said, "Great! See you then!"
When he walked off he said, "Man, am I going to have her as a girlfriend!" When she walked off she screamed, "GAAAH!!!" He turned around and said, "Are you okay!?" She smiled and said, "Just fine!" and she ran off.
When she was running she accidentally knocked into Skittery and knocked his papers down. She said, "Oh my gosh I'm sorry!" She bent down to help pick them up. He laughed and said, "No problem. Why were you running?" She said, "Oh, just for the fun of it." He said, "Well, you're not the only one who's knocked into me I'll tell you that much." They both then got up and she handed him some of his papers. He smiled. She smiled back. He said, "So hey, do you want to come with me while selling papes?" She smiled and said, "Sure!" He said, "Great! Then maybe we can get something to eat afterwards." She smiled and said, "I'd love to."
The Newsies were playing some poker in the lodge house when they heard laughter outside coming from Meg and Skittery that night. They looked out their window to see them tickling each other and falling on the ground. Kid Blink burned up. They then calmed down and walked in the lodge house arm in arm.
Meg waved to everyone one and laughed. Skittery was laughing with her too. Kid Blink then stormed to Skittery and said, "Hey! What is this!?" and pushed him. Meg looked up and said, "What was that for Blinky!?" Kid Blink said, "Everyone should know that you're my woman!" Meg gasped. She then pushed him, knocking him to the ground. She said, "Excuse me!? I am NOT anyone's woman! Especially yours!" Kid Blink said, "Hey now come on. Don't tell me my moves didn't work on you." She said, "Fine then I won't." She then crossed her arms. He was speechless. He finally said, "Come on! A lot of girl swoon over me. I could have sworn..." She said, "Well you thought wrong! I'm not interested in you. I'm interested in someone else." She then covered her mouth. He said, "Oh ya? Well who then!?" She said, "Like I'd tell a jerk like you!" She then stormed out of the lodge house.
Jack helped Kid Blink up. Racetrack said, "You bum! Look what you did!" Skittery was just speechless. Jack said, "I wonder which one of us she's interested in." Kid Blink was still angry. He really wanted to have Meg as a girlfriend. He looked at Skittery and said, "You two are dating huh!?" Skittery looked up and said, "You're over-reacting. She's just a friend." Kid Blink said, "Ya! Like you two were holding each other and messing with each other!" Skittery replied, "God Kid Blink! Would you calm down!?" Kid Blink then swung at him but Skittery dodged his move. Jack and Racetrack held Kid Blink back. Skittery said, "Look...I don't have time for this jealousy. I'm leaving!" he then walked out. Kid Blink said, "Ya! To that bimbo Meg!"
When Skittery walked out he saw Specs running in. Specs said, "What happened to Meg!?" Skittery said, "Kid Blink just upset her. Where is she!?" Specs said, "I don't know, I just saw her running and crying." Skittery said, "Help me find her. Please?" Specs said, "All right, let's split up."
When Skittery was running farther away from the lodge house, he heard distant yelling. Curiousity struck him and he ran closer to the yelling. He looked at the people yelling. One of them was Meg. He looked to see the Delancy Brothers circling her. All she did was tap her foot and cross her arms. She then said, "Are you guys done threatening yet because you're REALLY boring me." Morris looked at Oscar and said, "I don't think she's scared." Oscar said, "Let's make her scared then." Oscar then tackled her on the ground and Morris went to swing at her, but she caught his fist and twisted it. She then kicked Oscar off. She got up, brushed herself off and said, "You guys are weaker than my grandma." Oscar and Morris looked at each other and grinned. Meg said, "Oh look...I know who's yiffing who tonight." Oscar and Morris looked at her. Oscar said, "You disgusting woman!" Meg smiled and said, "Ya I know." She went to walk off but Morris grabbed her shoulders. She then grabbed him and swung him over her head. She yawned again and said, "Look..guys...it's been fun but I'm tired. See ya.." She then ran off.
Morris and Oscar started chasing her but Skittery got his sling shot and hit them on the head with hard pebbles, knocking them to the ground. She stopped when she saw them lay there. She said, "What the?" Skittery then ran out and said, "Let's keep running!" They then ran to a dark alley, near the lodge house.
When they backed up against a wall they breathed heavily from running so much. Skittery said, "Are you all right?" She nodded. He said, "Look, what Kid did back there was un-explainable." She nodded and said, "I know. He's a jerk. I can live with it." He looked at her and said, "But you were.." She interrupted, "I can live with it! All right?" Skittery backed away. She said, "I'm sorry. I'm just really upset right now." He said, "Are you cold?" She nodded. He then put his arms around her. She was shivering. Not from being cold...but from nervousness. She said, "What are you doing?" He said, "I'm just protecting you from the cold. Are you okay?" She said, "I'm fine. Thank you."
Skittery then looked down at her face. She didn't look back. He said, "Are you afraid?" She said, "Afraid of what?" He said, "Of me." She laughed and said, "Why would I be afraid of you?" He said, "You haven't looked me in the eyes at all. Are you afraid of me?" She said, "No no, I'm just..not used to being this close to someone." He smiled and went to kiss her...but she backed her head away from him.
He looked at her and said, "What's the matter?" She said, "I'd rather not talk about it." Skittery sighed. She said, "Look...it's not you. I always had a problem with...going out with someone." He said, "You never had a boyfriend?" She shook her head. He said, "Well...here." He then let go of her. She said, "What are you doing?" He said, "Let's take things slow." He then put his arm out. She smiled and put her arm around his. She said, "Thank you for understanding Skittery." He replied, "No problem here." When the walked back to the lodge house he said, "Say, you never told me which Newsie you had a thing for." She smiled without answering him. A few moments later, she quietly said, "I'll never tell."
