|HENNA MEHNDI RECIPE & CONE MAKING|
|This simple recipe makes enough paste to decorate the hands or feet of 6 people. Please follow these guidlines before preparing the paste.
SIFTING THE HENNA POWDER:
Unless you buy presifted henna powder you must remove all macro impurities like twigs, stems and other particles from the powder. Using unsifted henna will clog the tip of your cone or bottle or other applicator tools. For sifting, take a piece of nylon cloth and stretch it over a glass jar. Secure it with a rubber band. Now pour a spoonfull of henna powder on top of it and then gently brush with the back of a spoon. The resultant sifted henna is a fine powder.
BASIC RECIPE FOR MAKING HENNA PASTE:
1 cup water
2 tablespoons black tea or coffee
3 teaspoons sifted henna
1 teaspoon eucalyptus oil
1) Place water (1 cup) in a microwave/stove and boil it.
2)Turn off the stove/microwave and add black tea, ideally the tea should be left to steep in the water overnight.
3)Pour the sifted fine henna powder into a plastic bowl and add eucalyptus oil. Do NOT mix!
4)Now add 3 tablespoons of the tea one by one to the henna powder and keep stirring it.
5)Allow the paste to set for 12 hours.Air tight the bowl and keep it away from the light.
6)Check the consistancy of the henna paste. If you think it's not good enough for a smooth flow add water to make it dense or add fine henna powder to make it thin. The henna paste is now ready to use.
Though mehndi can be applied by many techniques or applicators but so far cone gives the best result.
1)Cut a 4x5 inches rectangular piece of a plastic sheet.
2)With the help of your left hand, hold this sheet with your thumb and index finger a third of the way down from the top on the left hand side.
3)With the help of your right hand, take the bottom left corner of the plastic sheet and fold up into a line that aligns with your thumb and index finger, creating a shape that looks like a triangle.
4)Using your right hand twist that corner into a cone shape.Keep twisting it until the bottom tip has no hole.
5)Using scotch tape, tape the edges closest to the bottom tip but do NOT tape the bottom tip.
6)Now put henna paste in the empty cone until 2/3 of the cone is filled.
7)Fold the top of the cone down. Make 2-3 folds.
8)Take each of the corners of the folded cone and fold them in at 45 degree angles.Fold again and seal it with the scotch tape.
9)Take a pin and make a tiny fine hole on the tip of the cone. Avoid using scissors!
