Mei-Tzu's picture. |
My name is Mei-Tzu Chiang. I am from Taiwan, a small and beautiful island. My parents are farmers in Kaohsiung, a southern city of Taiwan. They grow many kinds of fruits such as mango, litchi, longan, and bamboo shoots. They are the most wonderful parents in the world because they gave me a lot of love and support. Also, I have three older sisters and one older brother. We have a very close relationship between each other even though we all are married. Now, I have been in Salt Lake City for one year, and I am studying doctoral education in the Teaching and Learning department at the University of Utah. About myself, I think that I am not a very smart person, but I have very strong willpower. I am steady and dependable. When I was teaching, I received a lot of fulfillment, and I decided that teaching will be my job during my whole life.
I graduated from National Chiao Tung University with a master's degree in business administration. Because my family lived in a remote area, I attended school away from home from a young age. I had to move between the cities of Kaohsiung, Tainan, Taipei, Taichung, and Hsinchu while attending vocational high school, junior college, university, and graduate school, and this experience trained me in adapting to a new circumstances and planning my personal affairs.
When I was in National Chiao Tung University, it greatly increased my familiarity with the most common computer applications software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) and statistical software tools (SPSS). At that time, I had been a teaching assistant for two years. Then, I became familiar with many aspects of the assessment process while working as a research assistant for the Ministry of Education projects "A Study of Vocational High School Assessment in the ROC" and "Vocational High School Assessment Data Processing Team" at the assessment center of Hsin-Chu Teachers College. Apart from increasing my knowledge of assessment work, this experience also improved my research ability and made me understand of the importance of efficiency and the practical application of knowledge. The vocational high school assessment forms I worked on are available on the Internet for downloading (http://www.tve.edu.tw/3-policy/frame_policy.htm). Vocational high school assessment work has thus far been completed to stage sixth.
Then, I taught accounting at a vocational senior high school for one year. I am keenly aware that education has great effects on our younger generations. As a teacher, I know that teaching methods, interaction with students, and concern for students' daily lives are more significant than the imparting of professional knowledge. This is why I feel the ceaseless pursuit of self-improvement and new knowledge is very important. Therefore, I came to the U.S.A to learn more about teaching methods and teaching materials, while also expanding the educational perspectives.
My husband and I.(2001) |
In my free time, I like riding bicycle and watching movies with my husband. Furthermore, I like reading especially the tales of different countries. I really enjoy the feeling while I am moving and reading. During the one year in Utah, I have cooked a lot at home. I find that the more I cook, the more I like it. So, I wish I could be a good cook in the future.
I hope that my study will enable me to achieve the following goals:
