Major inspections and lots of electrical

The rough framing, rough plumbing and underground utility inspections are completed.  The rough mechanical inspection is a day or two away.  Each inspection goes smoothly, except for the underground electrical which required some rework in the trench.

I've been doing electrical for days.  There are four electric panels and over 20 circuits.

On the outside of the garage wall there is a panel where the utility line connects.  This panel has a 200amp breaker and two loads: one 100amp feed to an interior garage panel, and one pass through 200amp lug which goes to the house.  The feed to the house runs underground through URD (underground rated cable) in a trench as pictured below.

The garage has an interior 100amp sub-panel that will make it easy to wire that building.

The underground run to the house goes into a fused disconnect panel that has a large red on/off handle.  This disconnect is required at the wire entry point to the house so that a fireman can shutoff the electricity in an emergency.  The disconnect is the panel shown here.

Inside the utility room is the last panel.  This panel, shown below, will have all the house loads wired to breakers.  The disconnect panel and this load center panel are connected with 4/0 4 wire SER cable that is very difficult to bend, feed and cut.  The four thick cables shown below make up the SER cable.  The load wiring is almost complete - I have 17 15amp or 20amp runs so far, with 30amp or 50amp service for the A/C, dryer, and oven.

Between electrical work, I frame a few odds and ends, including this soffit dropped ceiling for the dining room.

Bob and Josh from Marshall Electric Service are providing expertise and consulting services.  They have wired all the data, voice, and TV runs as well as helping with the electric load center and some house wiring.

To The Edge Painting is working the exterior trim, having finished the main body color.

Saville Roofing is completing the porch roofing and will be placing a copper cap and wind vane on the turret.  The concrete driveway is formed and scheduled for concrete at 9AM 10/26/00.

First Choice Heating and Air Conditioning setting up a 100psi pressure test for the heating system pipes to complete the mechanical inspection, hopefully on 10/27/00.  Sheetrock is tentatively scheduled for November 6th.  Also gutters on that day.
