Mel is a devoted husband to Robyn. Married in 1980 and they have seven children - Hannah, Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo & a son born in 1999. Mel's father moved his family of six to Australia when Mel was young to protect Mel's older brothers from the draft, and because of an on-the -job injury. Mel graduated from his Catholoc High School with hopes of becoming a chef or a journalist, but instead he landed himself at the National Institute for Dramatic Arts. Somehow he landed a part in a small movie, he played the role of "Scollop" a surfer, in the movie called "Summer City, Mel's movie debut. He went on with a State Theater Group where he played several classic and contemperary roles. A director charmed by Mel's performance in "Summer City" asked Mel to audition for his new movie. Mel got into a bit of a bar room brawl the night before his audition but it must have helped, he got the role. The movie was a little flick called "Mad Max" a few of you may have heard of it. Well from there on is pretty much movie history now!! |
