Worthy of His Love

He took the marble out
And marveled for a second at it’s purity
White as snow and completely untouched
As pure as the girl he’ll carve for

He put his chisel on the block
And started to chip away
White flakes flew out from the stone
Reminding him of all the changes taking place

He worked for hours on that white piece
Chipping and sanding, smoothing and polishing
His mind whirled of images of her
His heart ached of emotion caused by her

He stood his work up and stood back to look
And as he stared, he finally felt at peace
He had carved something worthy of his love
That girl as pure as marble

A few days later he stood before his work
With tears glistening in his eyes
He placed some flowers on the newly turned earth
A gravestone worthy of his love
