Fibromyalgia (Fibrositis) This problem was first described because of tender points of unknown cause in the neck of individuals. When the metabolism of muscle is observed in these patients and compared to the normal population, one finds abnormalities in the muscle of the patients with fibromyalgia. There isn't a test or x-ray that can diagnose this process. The two main symptoms needed for diagnosing this illness are widespread pain for more than three months and pain with palpation in at least 11 of 18 specified points. The symptoms that the patient present with are: Pain - described as burning, aching, gnawing, and shooting; it comes and goes and changes location. Fatigue - a feeling of being without energy. Flu-like Symptoms - with or without sore throat. Abnormal Sleep Patterns Headaches Irritable Bowel Syndrome - alternating diarrhea and constipation, nausea, and "gas". Irritable Bladder - frequent urination and low abdominal discomfort are the hallmarks. Itching Skin Numbness & Tingling - Mostly in the hands and feet. Cognitive Problems - Difficulty concentrating, memory lapses, difficulty in finding the correct words. Clumsiness Stiffness Cold Sensitivity Sensitivity to smoke, noise, and light. Chest Pain Premenstrual Syndrome Painful Menses Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Depression & Anxiety The view this illness is a dysfunction of various systems of the body brought on by toxic impediments to the normal healing and repairing processes in the body. The toxins can be heavy metals, chemicals, or abnormal infectious agents. The toxic burden damages the immune system and the mitochondria of all organ systems. Cell dysfunction, metabolic derangements, and immune dysregulation are a result of the toxins. This leads to the complex of symptoms known as the fibromyalgia syndrome. |
