This page is dedicated to the memory of the final installment of my trilogy of Remus Lupin fanfics. |
ere's the storHere is the background info for everyone that may be confused. Sometime in early June I was bitten by the fanfic bug. I had read several and wanted to try my hand at it. There was no question in my mind who my fanfics would be about...Remus Lupin. The first story is, in my opinion, very good no matter what people have told me about it being sad. The second one, while special in it's own way, is not my favorite and is actually kind of droll. The third was the closure the first two needed to complete the trilogy and was (also only my opinion) excellent. There were very good character descriptions and the sub-plots were intricately woven to bring the three stories together. It was by far the hardest to write and several times throughout I'd have to stop and rethink everything from the first two to make it make sense. On the night of July 11th, 2002, I finished the final two pages. I read it over again, correcting anything that was amiss. As I went to save it, and after about 30 seconds into the save, I got a 'file permission error'. Okay, now here's where it gets weird. I tried saving it once again, and got the same message. Drastic measures would have to be taken. I had been saving it on a diskette, a 1.38MB that still had plenty of room for the remaining pages. Over 400KB. Anyway...I figured that what had been previously saved (the first 65 pages) would be safe and all I would have to do is save my new material (the final two pages) and all would be well. How wrong I was. I copied the new text to a blank document and saved them to another diskette thinking that I could merge them together when the time came. I attempted to save it one last time before I closed it and got the message again. As I tried to open the original file again, my heart stopped just long enough for me to realize that it was gone. Panic set in and I tried everything that I could but to no avail. It is gone forever. I know now that I shall no longer entrust my very soul with the false idols of the diskette. I now entrust my future to the one true leader, Hard Disk the almighty. Here is my eulogy for the long lost Part III. REST IN PEACE Part III June 24th 2002-July 11th 2002 We gather here today to pay tribute to a great story. One that was so young as to never have been read by anyone other than the author. It is truly a great loss to not only the author, but to readers of fanfiction everywhere. It's young life was ripped from the Diskette and thrown into the abyss of computer pergutory. Gone with it are the in depth character discriptions and ingenius weaving of sub-plots. Gone are the 6000+ minutes of typing and editing that made it what it was. Parts I and II will remember it's sacrifice and grieve the loss of their counterpart and closure. They pray that it's journey into the unknown will be enlightening and inspirational. It will be missed. Amen *throws in a handfull of dirt, a single red rose and walks away asking WHY?!?* I'd like to thank everyone who has paid tribute to my dearly departed story. You are helping the author deal with her overwhelming feeling of grief and sorrow. Leave your name and e-mail so that I may thank you properly. |
