To me, this is one of the most personal and powerful experiences within the pagan religion. It is when the power of the Goddess, the power of the moon, (of God, if you are drawing down the sun) is brought into oneself. Some prefer to think of it as actually bringing the Goddess into the self, not just her power. There are several very effective ways of achieving this. First, stand by a window where you can see the moon or outside, always looking at the moon. There are many different methods that are used. Some people (this is probably the most common way) use a chalice or bowl of water which reflects the moon, held at eye level outreached toward the moon. Other people just use a wand, an athame, or anything else (even your hands would suffice) stretched out toward the moon. Some people chant, or visualize, maybe dance or pray to draw the energy into themselves.
Which ever method works best for you is the one you should use. Once the energy has been gathered and utilized, release the rest back to the moon following a reverse process of how you gathered it. Thank the Goddess (or God) for being with you).
