The following is an article written by Arrow Wolf :Being a Family Tradition Wiccan is no different to being anyother type of wiccan, except that it is alot easier to come out of the broom closet- because we dont have one. Doing rituals with my mum and family can be really fun, especially at my favourite festival beltane. All of us go out into the garden and have what would seem to the neighbours like a big party. You've guessed it it's our Beltane ritual! Being a family tradition witch is not always easy though. I never had a problem with telling anyone I was a wiccan until secondary school. Up till then if people asked me my religion I'd say wicca. However in secondary school I met my very first born again christian. At first we got along but before long the inevitable happened and she found out that i was a witch. What happened next I'll never forget. She attempted to get me expelled from school, but she failed and I'm still there. So that just goes to show don't let uneducated people scare you. If they don't know what we're about then ignore them. Sure, I get the odd person doing the sign against the evil eye on me in the corridors, but I guess we all have to learn to live with that. It's the penalty we pay for our beliefs and although the wound may cut deep at the time, just feel sorry that they'll never know the goddess! My mum often helps me write spells and rituals for use with my friends and I in our circle (there are 4 of us!) and when we do that or cook or clean, it can all be magic if you want it to be! Even though we are Wiccan my mother plays the piano for the church down the road. For as she says, if she didnt they would have no usic and what is religion without that? We just quietly change the prayer words under our breath and leave it at that. I love all the old hymns, and often rewrite them for use in my rituals! Well, if that gives you an insight into the life of a Fam trad, I hope it helps. There is just one last thing though, Spells. I think I must have been asked for spells more times that I've had hot dinners. I think that people think of us as Sabrina's able to flick a finger for things to happen! It dosent work like that and I wish they'd understand that we can't make people fall in love/ instantly rich.... The list is endless as is the cue of once borns wanting your knowledge. If I can offer you one piece of advice, dont flaunt your knowledge. Once I treid doing this in primary school with a spree of plamistry. All that happened was the people who's palms I read got very upset, especially when what I said came true. This does not prove how powerfull/magical you are, just how stupid. I was told off thourally both by my teachers and my mother. The other bit of advice is dont expect everything to happen for you in magic just because you've done a spell. Belief is one of the main ingrediants for it to work. Never forget a sell you've done, because you're belief fades and so does the spell!
