It's still the
same old story, Oh, sorry. That's Casablanca, isn't it. Well.... it's Melfis too! We're an ongoing game in the middle of a major adventure. They've rescued the Dwarven Prince, and all they have left is to find a cure for one of the characters who was infected by Vampire Bugbears -- and then (try to) stop the evil duke who may be in league with those fostering the rebirth of the Dark God. Former Duke, actually, he now styles himself as the Royal & Supreme Serenity of the Benignity of Free Athring. The game is set in a dm-made AD&D (2e) world -- but check the house rules, too. The group is comprised of elves/half-elves, humans and a female dwarven cleric. Dwarves and elves play a large role in the story of this world. Our way of selecting new players is somewhat "different." Usually, the DM will collect applications, and present the best couple to the other players. It's as much their game as mine, after all. A successful character will have a well executed background that is in keeping with the Melfis world. A successful player will need to commit to a several-times per week schedule and be here for the long run.

Melfis is a small kingdom, beset with troubles. There are agressive neighbors to the north and south, pirate warlords at sea, and her allies are always busy with more important things. Peasants from outside the main cities report horrifying tales of demon-spawn loose on the countryside. The crown does what it can to maintain order, but with the need to fortify the borders, there just isn't enough manpower to go around. To make things worse, the old King, Wilhelm, is failing rapidly, and he has no male heir. To seat his daughter, Talis, on the throne would upset this male dominated society, but she's a capable and powerful leader has the loyalty of the army. She will be Queen. Now, all hell has broken loose. The envoy of Melfis' most reliable ally, the Dwarven King Basalt IV, has disappeared. And he's no regular envoy, he is the Crown Prince, Geodon. He has just been rescued by an intrepid band of adventurers, who snatched him from assassins in the employ of the powerful Twain, Mark of Maendir. The Duke of Athring, Wilhelm's nearest male relative, has declared himself the Supreme Serenity of the Benignity of Free Athring and encamped a large army of Freedom Fighters around the city. The Dark Lord, Silindur is waking, and raising his fell army. This is the calm and tranquil environment awaiting you. ![]() "Melfis" is a Play-By-Email/Egroups role-playing game roughly based on TSRŪ's (or whoever TSR turned into) Advanced Dungeons & DragonsTM game system (2nd edition). It takes place in a world designed by the DM and a group of adventurers as they explore their destiny. The game is administered and run by the DM, who can be reached via email at: druid@evergreenconsulting.net. Its focus is on the role playing [as opposed to hack & slash] style of play. Although it has been several months of real-time play, this adventure is just getting underway, so the site has several holes, to be filled in by the wit and imagination of the players as things develop. Lurkers are welcome. Just head over to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/melfis . That's where the daily postings take place. |
