a hot screw, toasts to the sexy beasts, calling sixer, almost getting into a brawl with eric, thank God shes not dead, her teeth hurt, cleaning out the fridge (who ate all the cheese???), theme to the mickey mouse club good times, good times then, a lovely outdoor concert with the gin blossoms and fireworks holiday weekend capped off by a visit to sixers - who fortunately (?) has not changed much unfortunately, jonesie and i trekked all the way out there only to watch him and his poker buddies gamble away their hard earned pocket change perhaps another time we can all go out and chain smoke (aka play pool in commack) like the good old days and to think he used to be a track star ... so, here i am back at loyola just bc i havent updated this in a while doesnt mean important things arent happening! and since ive hit the big 2-0 ive decided to be more responsible, among other things so here goes ... just got back from what should have been a 9-day (3/1-3/9) canoeing and backpacking trip ... we had to cut it short by 3 days bc of assorted disasters, including but not limited to: *realizing about an hour into a 14 hour car trip that we left the lifejackets and jugs of water at school, and having to turn around and go back to get them *thunderstorms and horrific traffic in south carolina, caused by a motorcycle falling off the back of a truck. there were motorcycles everywhere on their way to some sort of convention *rain. lots of it. every single day *six novice canoers and two inept leaders tackling a river we didnt know was tidal until we were in it, paddling against the current. highlight - going back to camp and playing four-square *an eight mile canoe trip that couldnt be completed due to our utter lack of strength, skill, sense of direction, and of course, inclement weather *finally giving up and taking the ferry to cumberland island. highlights - wild horses, a wild pig (boar?), armadillos, and really cool old trees *two hamburgers, ravenously eaten my meg and i. we snuck off during a trip to wal*mart to get them (hey - my rainsuit was in shreds, we needed some duct tape) *one migraine (kathy) *one sprained wrist (andrea) *one wild night spent at the pioneer site - dark, scary, and isolated, with no bathrooms. highlight - when kathy and andrea returned from the hospital, kathy told us the story i will relate below *one gorgeous day spent hiking through okefenokee swamp in florida. in the swamp, we saw about half a dozen alligators (including one missing an eye, a leg, and half her tail), a diamondback rattlesnake (we only noticed this bc meg almost stepped on it), and a water moccasin. also, we had to walk through puddles of shin-deep black water in the home of eight kinds of poisonous snakes. highlights - amazing, breathtaking, prehistoric-looking swampland, cool wildlife, and swamp hollerin *at the end of this particular day, we arrived at okefenokee's campsite only to discover they were closed that evening. upon arrival at another campsite, we almost drove the 2 vans into the river, which had risen considerably bc of all the rain and now covered the road. this meant 6 girls had to lift the trailer carrying the canoes and move it over so andrea would have enough room to maneuver a 3-point turn *kathy had to go back to the hospital because she caught some kind of bacteria from the environment. the doctors recognize her and tell her not to sleep outdoors. because of the late hour at which she and andrea arrive back at the campsite, this means kathy has to spend the last night in the van *on thursday morning, we wake up to see corey and andrea packing up to go home. they let us shower. i am physically ill and not looking forward to the 14 hour car trip (dont worry, i made it just fine). highlights - great signs for SOUTH OF THE BORDER and stopping for lunch at bojangle*s whew other high points of the trip - kathy taught us the banana song. lyrics are as follows: bananas of the world, unite! bananas of the world, split! grow, grow, grow bananas! grow, bananas, grow! bananas of the world, unite! bananas of the world, split! peel, peel, peel bananas! peel, bananas, peel! bananas of the world, unite! bananas of the world, split! go, go, go bananas! go, bananas, go! (ask terri, meg, or i to show you the dance that goes with it. the song is nothing without the dance) the first time kathy went to the hospital, the doctor asked her what she was doing in georgia, so she told him about our canoeing trip. he just looked at her and said, canooo? you tried to canoe crooked river?? ive taken a kayak there, but i would NEVER canoe it! i imagine if you tried, youd likely end up in florida, or DEAD! thanks for the advice dude. way to research the fucking site, corey seriously though, knowing all that i would still do it again. had an unbelievable time with meg, terri, chris, sara, kathy, and andrea. coreys a little wacko, but even she started to grow on me after a week ps, im now a huge country music fan. guess 5 days in the deep south will do that to a person so its that time of year again the time of year i lose what little motivation i had at the beginning of the semester and start fucking up again thats right, i had five papers due last month - handed in every single one late, thankyouverymuch o yes, by this time next week ill be back on sunny long island, where the sexy beasts and the catholic school girls roam and the deer and the antelope play also coming up is kaylans amazing superfun holy shit im going to thailand party blowout extravaganza. holla this past week was full of ups and downs up - went to a cool party next door to kurt denk sj (aka best philosophy professor ever) up - made (better) friends with a cool person i didnt know that well up - hung out with said cool person again down - saturday night this particular saturday night was an evening of firsts: first time i forgot to eat dinner first time i actually completed a power hour first time i saw death race 2000 first time i played flip cup with real cups (not those red plastic bad boys) first time i was ever that sick in my life. we're talking thowing up, cant function, blacking out, cant walk, didnt know people could be so ill kind of sick. in someone elses apartment. plus, word on the street is, i threw up on gregs roommate (well not on him - well some got on him - does it really matter?! its still totally gross!! ew!!) and first time i was ever so embarrassed better luck next time, drunkie - jeez ps, im an interdisciplinary major now. psychology and philosophy. just thought you should know |
