While most assume Thomas Edison's A TRIP TO MARS is a rip off of A TRIP TO THE MOON, many films by Pathe were much more blatant. Just take a look at some of these shots from Segundo de Chomon's scene by scene remake called LA VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE (1909 - note the similar title) (I do not know a back story to this film. If anyone knows how this came to be made, please post a description in the guestbook. Some of the changed aspects in this remake are that there are no female astronomers, the professor's blackboard drawing of the moon voyage comes to life in primitive stop - motion animation, there is no 'dream of the stars', the selenites - apparently chinese - push the projectile off the moon, and the projectile lands near the astronomers club).
NOTE: Chomon's film is available in Flicker Alley's DVD set SAVED FROM THE FLAMES.
