This photo belonged to Ollie Robert Mathis, son of David "Dave" Mathis and Dora Lavonia Grimes Mathis. The back only says "A birthday dinner. Mr. & Mrs. Dave Mathis are in the crowd." Ollie's wife Ruby says that Ollie told her that Dave and Lavonia are the two with the "X" over their heads. I placed the larger marks you see, but in the original photo there is a tiny "X" over each of their heads.
Dave was first married to Rachel Barnett, but they divorced. Dave married Lavonia on August 19, 1894, in Perry County, TN. In 1900, they lived in District 11 of Hickman County, TN. In 1910, they lived in Lobelville in District 4 of Perry County, TN. Some of the Mathis family lived around Wolf Creek in Hickman County, TN. I'm not sure where the Grimes family lived, but someone said Lavonia was from Powell Hollow.
