Before heading off to Rome, Jason and I spent the 20th through the 22nd at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. We saw ostrich, giraffe, and zebra from our hotel balcony! The lodge looked beautiful - all decorated for Christmas. |

Then it was off to Rome! The first night we spent wandering around by the Spanish steps and down the Via Condiotti. |

Christmas Eve, we headed out to see some sights. Our hotel was in Piazza Barberini - where Jason posed with the Tritone fountian. Then it was off to Trevi fountain and I tossed in a coin for luck and love. The rest of the day was spent exploring the Monumento A Vittorio Emanuele II (the "wedding cake"), Foro Romano (the Forum), the Colosseo, and some of the Basilica's. Christmas in Rome would not have been complete without attending the Midnight Christmas Eve Mass at St. Peter's - we saw the Pope! |

Christmas Day we went to the Piazza Del Popolo, the Piazza Navona, the Fontana Delle Tartarughe ("turtle fountain"), Circo Mossimo, and stopped by Santa Maria in Cosmedin to try out the Bocca Della Verita ("the mouth of truth"). Legend says if you say a lie while your hand is in the mouth it will clamp down and bite you! (Jason passed without a nibble.) |

The 26th, we went to the Pantheon (the hi-light of the trip for Jason), where we saw the graves of Victor Emmanuel and Raphael. After stops at several more cathedrals, we saw the Largo Argentina - home to the wild Roman cats! We also saw Trajan's Column and Forum, gladiator training grounds, San Giovanni in Laterno, the old city wall, and the Christian/Mithras church Basilica San Clemente. |
The next day we headed back to St. Peter's, we saw the Pieta, and climbed the 320 steps to the top of the dome. What a view! We then headed across the Ponte Sant' Angelo (the bridge of angels) and explored the Castel Sant' Angelo. The rest of the afternoon we spent wandering around the city. Along the way we saw the Ponte Rotto ("the broken bridge") one of the few remaining ancient bridges. |

We went to the Capitoline Museum and Palazzo dei Conservatori on the 27th. We saw Michelangelo's Moses and Peter's chains in San Pietro in Vincoli, the tomb pyramid, Keat's grave, and San Paolo Fuori le Mura ("St. Paul's outside the walls"). Our last day we toured the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel! The rest of our trip we shopped, and played around the city! |
