Don't you hate it when people slip some Japanese on their page, but don't give translations? I do, so made this little page that contains all the Japanese I know, which isn't all that much. And, as i learn more Japanese, I'm finding out what a crummy subber VKLL is. VKLL gets way to much publicity. They're sooo overpriced! Its like, $25 per tape of 4 episodes. Gosh, I know this guy that'll sub 'em for free if you send them the tapes. Anyway.....

What is kanji? Kanji is one of three forms of Japanese writing. Japanese has taken over characters and vocabulary from Chinese (although they're unrelated grammatically). The Japanese government has approved a basic list of 1,850 of them but there are many more. One dictionary even gives some 50,000. Kanji are symbols for concepts: 1 word = 1 character, as opposed to hiragana and katakana, which represent syllables. Kanji characters may consist of as many as 33 strokes, but many have been simplified since World War II.

Hiragana is another way of writing Japanese. There are 46 hiragana characters. These are used for writing authentically Japanese words, and often also for paricals and endings of words spelled in kanji. These characters can be recognised by their flowing, round form.

Katakana is the third way of writing Japanese. This is a kind of shorthand, more angular than hiragana. It is often used for writing English and other foreign words and names in Japanese. All characters of hiragana and katakana represent one stllable. Katakana has five groups of syllables based on the vowels used.

Why do you not put a space between the Sailor and the planet? Well, to tell the truth, IT DOESN'T MATTER!! You could spell it Sailor Jupiter or Sailorjupiter. The only correct way to spell it is in Japanese and I don't have a Japanese font so I can't demonstrate.end of names.

Sailor Senshi- (this is a no brainer) Sailor SOLDIERS I have NO idea where DiC came up with "SCOUTS"! It sounds like their Girl Scouts or something, and I HATED Girl Scouts, but in that last 17 episodes of the R, DiC did something good for a change, I can tell you I was shocked, and started calling them Soldiers, and even kept in one of Mercury's original attacks!!!

Japanese Names:

Usagi- Serena (DiC was going to name Serena- Victoria...don't ask)

Ami- Amy (Well, that's better than Blue, which is what they were going to name her....DON'T ask!)

Rei- Raye (They were originally going to name her Dana)

Makoto- Lita: Named after one of Jupiter's smallest moons (They WERE going to call her Sara)

Minako- Mina (They were originally going to call her Kari. Maybe that explains her "little friend" in Kindergarten Chaos or whatever that episode is called)

Chibi-Usa- Rini: Well, Chibi-Usa mean little Usagi (little rabbit) and so I guess they took the end of Serena's name and thus, Rini. Although why DiC choose the spelling Rini and not the more practical, Reeny, is a mystery.

Setsuna- Celia (What they SHOULD call her in English- Susan)

Michiru- Nerissa: Nerissa means water nyph, so I guess they didn't do such a bad job naming her. (her name in english should be Michelle)

Haruka- Corinne: Where on earth they came up with this name, I have no idea. I think it's too girlish for Haruka, but it wasn't my decision, unfortunatly. (They should call her Alex, short for Alexandra, but do they know how to translate things? No.)

Hotaru- Helen? This is the only one I'm not sure about (besides the Starlights) But that's what they should call her in English.

All of the English names for the Outers came off their doll boxes. Yes, they have made NA dolls for three of the Outers, I haven't seen a Saturn doll yet, so I don't know if they have made one or not.
