Plastic Canvas Pieces (7 mesh): - a 5 x 40 bar strip - a 4 x 22 bar strip (for the tie, for male collar only) *Size can be slightly modified to use your own scraps. * Outer rim from a cut circular piece of canvas can also be used. |
Yarn Colors: - white - any color for tie *For female blouse collar, any color can be used. |
Assembly: |
Man's Collar: 1. Using a tent stitch, fill in the strip that is to be the collar. 2. Cut the corners off of the tie piece so that all four corners are rounded. Make diagonal cuts about six bars down from the top to make the knot part of the tie. Cut into both sides of the tie strip to make the knot distiguishable from the rest of the tie. 3. Run a piece of white yarn through one end of the collar, then through the tie, then to the other end of the collar. Tie this string tightly. The ends of the strip will pull together to form the collar while securing the tie in the middle. 4. Embellish with shirt buttons. |
Woman's Blouse Collar: 1. Create small notches in the collar strip to create a scalloped edge. 2. Use a tent stitch to fill in the collar with the desired color. 3. Thread some yard through one hole on each end of the collar strip. Tying this string together will hold the ends of the collar together and give it it's shape. 4. Embellish with a strand of pearls or other beads. |
To Display: Put over a juice bottle, wine bottle, decorative bottles, or any other container with a thin neck. |
More Ideas: -Create a jester collar by creating triangular pieces around the collar. |
